I posted the other day thinking that maybe my clutch was slipping. but I drove the old girl again today and it is NOT anything like that.
here is what I have
1977 Ford F-150 Ranger XLT. 4x4
4speed manual
351m.
so when I was driving it in this morning it started doing the same thing it did last time..when I would shift to 3rd to 4th..it could cut out..lose power not go... but it was not slipping..the actual engine was cutting out. at point dying all together. I did not do this until it warmed up. cold...it ran like a top. also, I noticed several times it back firing..or misfiring.
I had it professional tuned up about a month ago, but since I live in a small town, I never drove it far enough to get hot. I am thinking maybe a bad plug wire?? or maybe timing is off? . I am calling the shop when they open, but I thought id pick the collectives brain while im working :-)
If only doing it when warm/hot it may be the IGN box.........they have a habit of acting up when they get hot. Once they cool off......they're usually good again...do you have a spare laying around you could plug in a try?
I do not have one. I just bought this old girl about a month ago. I have always Loved the 1970's ford 4x4. so I have yet to amass all the parts that you know eventually...I will have LOL.
