i have to fix rust in the left rear cab corner on my 55 so i bought the replacement but it doesnt have the hole fort he fuel spout so i figured i would just shave it but dont know how to run my feul spout. can i go in the door jam or is there a fuel door off another car that i could use. i know u can buy a fuel door but i want to keep cost down but still have it look good.
Hagan's makes a good unit that fits very nicely in the curved corner of our cabs. I put one in my '53 Mercury. It was reasonable ($125) and Pete Hagan was great to deal with.
Not sure what vehicle you could cut one out of tho there must be one if you look long and hard enuff!
I relocated the fuel tank from my '56 to the 53-55 location and used an 80's Chrysler mini-van door and part of the neck. The door is on the back side of the cab and is opened by the original cable and latch that came with the mini-van. If you look in my gallery, I think there is a picture in there of the location. Other modifications required (besides welding in the fuel door) were to cut a hole for the fuel filler tube to pass through the floor of the cab and the filler neck of the '55 fuel tank had to be "adjusted" to be closer to vertical. It's not a difficult mod, just involves raising and lowering the fuel tank about 10 more times than you ever thought you could stand.
