Crawling around under the truck and noticed something that looked out of place... I have a ground strap that runs from the body to the frame located just under the passenger footwell. The strap connects to the body mount from the frame under the passenger side, and then runs up to the pinch weld under the cab just above it.
Can anyone confirm if this is a factory-installed ground strap? It just looks out of place to me.
I don't have any brake controllers or anything inside the cab that didn't come from the factory. There was what appeared to be a car phone amplifier or something located behind the seat on the driver side, with one of those old-school cell phone antennas attached to the rear window, but that and the associated wiring has been removed...
I can't think of a reason for that ground strap to be there unless it came that way from the factory, which would seam odd.
It is put there to keep static out of the radio.
It has no electrical grounding purpose as the frame is not a ground point unless you pull a trailer.
It is called a static electricity ground strap. You should also have some more of them in the radiator area and one between the engine and the safety wall (fire wall).
