6.7 work truck

Hello all I'm new to this forum looking to buy a 2011 with 170k on odometer. How has this power plant treated you. I've got 7.3s now.

Thanks
Mike

What model and when was it built? You want something newer than 04/11.

It's a 450 flatbed. The dealer has 2 one with 150k and other 170k

Search for "Evelyn is toast"

The early production engines had a run of defective exhaust valves, which can break while the engine is running. When they break the pieces cause the piston and cylinder wall to self destruct, it's either a blown engine or a hydro locked engine. Happened to me at 122,000, a few others here as well. Seems that the issue is limited to engines built from 07/2010-03/2011.

Are the 450s included in early production run. I'm looking at a truck that I guess was inventoried 3/11. 159k. And selling for 20k

03/11 should be fine, if there are any known issues for that production time, I don't know about them. Some 2012 builds had weak turbo bearings but I don't know the specific date ranges.

It was actually the C&C trucks in the 2011 model year that the problem first appeared in.

Got to drive this truck finally. Having never experienced a 6.7. It's too quiet for a diesel. this truck has 3/11 build and seemed to have decent power. My 7.3 I think is more powerful. Is this right?

A chipped and tuned 7.3 could feel faster than a stock 6.7 because the pedal mapping is changed. But I haven't heard one person here come back and say, gee, I wish I had my 7.3 back to pull that trailer....

It is my guess that unless you have thousands of dollars in upgrades to your 7.3 there is no way your 7.3 has more power than a stock 6.7! A programmed 7.3 will make about what a stock 6.0 does and a programmed 6.0 will make about what a 6.7 does! 800 ft lbs of torque is almost double what the 7.3 had in most years and the new transmissions put that power to the ground so much more efficiently than the transmissions of old! Good luck with your search for a new truck!

I will also say go for it, I have a 7.3 with 200/30 injectors, 38r and all the supporting mods of course. Our 6.7 wins hands down when towing!

But then of course this is the pickup model, Cab and chassis have been detuned a bit
