Well, finally got the Np205 and 76' Dana 60HD rear diff installed with disc brakes in my 67 Highboy and will take it out for first drive tomorrow. Hope all goes well? Not sure how truck will react with drum front and rear disc? We shall see. Front disc are coming but I did the rear first cuz my old rearend had some problems and it needed attention.
OK, well the brakes are now horrible but everything else awesome. The switch to the 4.10's is nice and the NP205 is so quiet compared to the old Dana 24. Rearend is nice and quiet also. The truck rides so much better as well as the all the rear spring bushings and shackle bushings are new. All the old bushings were completely gone. Love the wider stance in the rear with the later model rearend as well. Just hate the rear disc, for now.
I would think that the miss match of front drum and rear disc could make an unbalanced system. Probably just be patient and wait for your front discs, use a master cylinder and proportioning valve that would match up with an all disc system. Or you can add a manual proportioning valve, it's an inline needle valve used to pinch off either the front or rear that is too aggressive. They're pretty common in racing for biasing the brakes.
2X Turbo Dogs comments. Since the front does most of the braking, you need the front brakes working harder, and you've got the power at the rear. Be very careful in the rain!
