Just bought a 1993 F150 XL, about 30 min ago. Don't have a manual yet. Never owned a Ford or a truck before. Can someone explain to me how dual fuel tanks work? Does the gauge show how much is left in both tanks, or only the one selected by the switch next to the steering wheel? Is there any advantage/disadvantage to using one tank or the other or both?
Also, anyone have recommendations for adding a cupholder or two?
The gauge shows what's in the selected tank. Neither tank is more advantageous to use. It's a good idea to use both tanks and switch tanks regularly, to keep both senders/pumps working, and to know that you have a working backup if one fails.
As for the cup holder, what seat do you have? Automatic or manual transmission?
Welcome to FTE.
I presume you have the bench seat without the middle fold down section or armrests? If so, perhaps use a wide bottom cup and put it in the small almost square spot on the dash next to the instrument cluster. That's what I use whenever I don't have my cupholder sized cup with me.
The cloth bench seat in the XLT trucks have a cup holder bolted to the front of the seat down near the floor in the middle, right at the hump. The one for the manual trucks absolutely sucks; the one for the auto trucks sucks a little less. See if you have two bolts sticking out of the front of the seat; that's what the cup holder hooks onto. An XL bench seat might not even have that, however.
