...I am looking for a reliable truck to be used on a festival.
IMO anything 30+ years old with an unknown history will need significant investigation and possibly maintenance/work to even approach being considered reliable....
Today I took a look on a 1986 F-150.
First thing: no controll lights, only one for seatbelts while turning the key.
Than engine runs smooth, but is from 1995.
Steering wheel has quit a bit play in it. Feels like a boat.
Supension hits hard on every whole.
Pulls strong 4x4 works nice.
They did a lot of bodywork, but there is so much blackpaste over it, I cant say whats realy fixed.

They ask for 4.5k. Too much I think.
Way to much. I paid $4000 for my 86 f150 4x4 lariat in excellent shape back in 2011-12.
The AOD (automatic overdrive) trans provided economy if it was in a truck with well-matched axle gearing, but lacked durability/reliability........IMHO it shouldn't have been in trucks, in stock form.
All the non-OD manual transmissions are tough, as is the C6 automatic (but no OD).

First thing: no controll lights, only one for seatbelts while turning the key. Could just be bad bulbs?
Than engine runs smooth, but is from 1995. I would say if everything is hooked up right and it runs right then who cares?
Steering wheel has quit a bit play in it. Feels like a boat. Could be bad tie rods, ball joints or rag joint. Also not knowing what you drive today it will feel a little loose over a R&P car or truck.
Supension hits hard on every whole. Again what do you drive? Remember this is a truck not a cushy car or even a modern truck.
Pulls strong 4x4 works nice. That is a plus. Did you take it to a dirt lot to test it or just moved lever?
They did a lot of bodywork, but there is so much blackpaste over it, I cant say whats realy fixed. What is "black paste"? Would this be body filler? Next time take a magnet and use it on the lower fenders, doors, cab corners, over the wheels of the bed as that is where most of the rust would be. If fixed right there should be only a "skim" coat of filler and the magnet should stick but will pull off easily. If it will not stick then was not don't right and the hole filled with body filler.
They ask for 4.5k. Too much I think. If that is $4500 and from what you told us not seeing the truck I would also say too much.
Then again I am cheap on buying and spend all my money on the fix up side like the $800 truck I bought and sinking money into now.
Good luck on the hunt as that is half the fun.
