I've got a 2000 Excursion with 55k which I purchased with 35k. I can feel a warped rotor on the front. I don't know if the previous owner had any rotor problems. Talking to the service manager at the Ford dealership, when getting oil changed, I mentioned the rotor problem and he indicated it is a common problem for the 2000s and a few years earlier. He said Ford changed/thickened the rotors in 2001 as a remedy. I've also read a number of threads on this forum about this problem.
Given Ford acknowledged the design problem is there any remedy through them?? Also how difficult is it to change them out yourself (4x4 with lockout hubs). If this is going to be a common problem maybe I better learn how to repair it myself. I own a couple collision repair shops and have access to lathes or parts at cost.
Any insight you guys could offer would be appreciated?
I have a 02 F-250 4X4 with only 40K miles and I have had 1 set put on from the dealer before it went out of warranty and one that I have put on myself. I have a friend at the dealer and he said that they have problems with all the 4X4 trucks.
There are some post in here about those ART rotors and but I have not used them personally.
