drop oil pan for gasket replace
hey FTE,
Working on 69 F100- 360:
I am still deciding if I should replace rear main seal, oily/gritty film behind the flywheel, BUT the oil pan gasket is bummed up in several spots and seem to be one source of oil.
Other thread said must remove oil pump to drop the pan.
Is it possible to drop it slightly and thread the new oil pan gasket under the bottom of the pump, then clean the gasket and get it to seal up when tight.
Thanks,
Richard

I don't seem to have a problem with oil pressure so would like to leave the pump and all alone. Looks like I can drop the pan about 1 inch without jacking up the engine. Then I could replace te gasket with the idea freighttrain had about cutting it in one place. Gusee I could put a touch of form-a-gasket at the joint when reinstalling.
If I have to jack up the engine I may go for replacing the rear main seal depending on the answers I get about a pin in the gasket track either in the block or the cap. The back of the engine, before the flange flywheel mounts to is a little oily but the flywheel and the pan under it were clean and dry.
Would love to stop all the leaks.
Richard
