Hi, I'm looking at a 2001 F250 EX CAB and LB with the V10. As of now, it has 225,000 miles on it. The trucks has been in private ownership, 3-owner, and it needs some stuff, (ABS light is on, and needs Left exhaust manifold. Is the tread problem fixed with the 2001 models? Should I be worried about these miles. How long do you think it will last?
Can say how long the engine will last. Fleet V10s have been known to do 400k+ miles before they are replaced for newer models. The one you are looking at could go well over that of blow on the way home from buying it, just the way it is.
The extra thread length for the spark plugs happened in the 2003 MY. Some 2003s didn't have the extra length some did, depends on build date. It is not really a problem if the plugs were changed with some care and kept tight. My dad never had issues with his and I did all the plug changes. Even if a plug blows it is not the end of the world, a Timesert is a lasting repair.
I still have my old exhaust manifolds laying around when a put headers on around 30k miles. Headers prevent the exhaust stud breakage that is common with the stock exhaust manifolds. Make sure to check the other manifold for broken studs or exhaust leaks.
