Greetings all!!
Hoping to get delivery on a F350 Crew next month and want to get a line on running boards.
I did not order the truck with any running boards.
What kind should I avoid?
What kind you you all recommend?
What's the best place to get em?
I'm sure you will get all kinds of opinions, but I went with these Luvernes on my 2012 K/R. I removed the originals because I needed "Wheel to Wheel" boards.
I eventually hope to get rid of my factory boards and get a set of AMP Research XL powersteps. I like the look of not having any steps. Makes the truck look higher.
But gotta have steps of some sort. Don't like mountain climbing up into the truck, and hate sliding off the side of the seat to the ground. That's a quick way to ruin the sides of your seats.
I like the XL because they have a rock slider look when closed, and drop down lower than regular powersteps.
I love the look of the power steps but can't imagine how long they would last up here in the salt, freezing temps, etc. Anything mechanical up here is asking for trouble in my opinion. But if I were in your neck of the woods it would be a great option.
I just went with the factory plastic boards. I really don't like the looks of actual running boards but they do a good job of keeping rocks and mud off the side of the truck. I will have to say the factory plastic boards do look better than the aluminum boards from the old days.
I just installed a set of iboards from Amazon black aluminum on my 2003 crew. They are 5" wide and are about the right size. See picture. I wish they had a third support in the middle as they do bow a bit in the middle. Just put them on Friday so we will see how they hold up.

Put the 5 inch black step tubes on last week, I know they will not protect anything but its just a step for the wife. Bolted on with only 2 sockets in 1 hour and fit perfect. $357 from the Ford dealer. Instruction's are kind of lame and don't tighten everything till all the bolts are in. I'm happy
Agreeing with what 5851A says, I've run the 5" black tubular steps since I bought the truck. I love the style more than any of the other OEM steps, and they've held up extremely well over the years. No flex, very sturdy, and the mounts provide a good place for running lights....plus if you're close by to me I'll give you a killer deal on a brand new set for your crew cab! Good luck in your search, if you like the OEM look, it would be worth checking these out. In terms of aftermarket, the N-Fab's are very nice.
Here's a picture of the style we are talking about
You can also check out some of the shops that sell and install. I picked up a pair of take offs from a platinum that were like new for $100. Ford wants about $650. I did the install.

I've been checking steps out for a while and I think it will be a set of the factory molded steps. But I'd like to get them for less than 650. I guess I'll start calling around to those shops.
Does anyone know of an after market set that fits up close like those? I have looked at pics from quite a few sites and the sets I like all seem to be shown on GMs and Rams and I can't find the molded type that aren't shown hanging down at least an inch or so, at least not on an F-250. Maybe it's just the way they are adjusted.
Do most of the steps and bars allow adjusted up close to the body or dropped down an inch or more?
And do any look like they are designed specifically to fit and match the contours etc... of a contemporary F-250?
Iv had the Ranch Hand wheel to wheel steps for a year now and love them. Mount at the factory locations with 12 bolts total each side. Rugged construction and fit the look right.
