engine swap

Ok so I have a 2000 F150 2wd 5 speed manual. And I want to do an engine swap for more power but I don't want to have to stop at every gas station. I want to make the truck into a pre runner but still be street able. Any engine swap ideas would be great thanks.

Pre Runner.... Are there any inspection and emissions tests in your state? Are there any on the table? If so, just buy another truck with a V8, as you will have hell to pay with an engine swap other than stock to stock as OEM for your year and model.

How much of the truck are you going to keep? Are you going with a cage, stripped interior, long travel suspension?

Or are you just adding big tires and loud muffler?

Are you going to pre run anything, or is "Mall Rated" good enough?

How much do you want to spend?

A warmed up 302 would work and will, in theory, bolt up to your transmission. Or if you like to suffer, swap in a later 3 valve 4.6 with the efi, harness, sensors, ecm, transmission etc.

Inspections and emissions tests are all pretty basic. And I really just want the body. But I would be hitting everything from street to mud and trails in it. And I would go cage and long travel but not a 100% stripped. And cost wise will depend on if a job I'm lookin at pulls through.
