67 F100 Altenator Problem
Got a wire burning/hot problem.
Today as I was test driving my 67 the engine just died. From under the hood came that oh too familiar smoke and electrical smell. The wires from the alt to the regulator and up to the selenoid had totally fried.
I rebuilt the harness with new wires according to the wiring diagram and compared it to my 70 F100. The wiring is correct.
Part of the original problem was possibly the connection to the regulator. It was pulled partially off when I removed the burned wires.
Now the new wires still get very hot. The alternator gets VERY hot. I think if I let it go, they would burn again. I removed the three wires from the alternator and they no longer get hot. But of course it's not charging either.
So.... any ideas what's going on here? Bad alt? Bad reg?
Thanks!

It ened up that the power connection and the push on connection(field-stator) where Loose, this was causing power spikes *Lots of sparks* while engine was running.
With all the connections very secure, this system should not over-heat.
Also, if you are running a factory amp guage (no alt dash light) it should be wired this way. A factory idiot light wiring is different.

I think I have it fixed for the most part. I rechecked the wiring and it's the same as the diagram posted. So I put a new alt and reg in and that seems to have solved the over heat situation. Only problem now is my amp gauge is pegged to the right side. Think I fried it?
