Brahma and Avalanche Build thread 83 and 91 bronco

Ok so originaly I wasn't going to make a build thread for the 91 but the 83 and 91 are getting alot of work so figured why not put them in one thread.

So first off the Avalanche is a 91 Ford bronco 4x4 351W EFI E4OD 3.55LS XLT with all power options. This bronco is my dad's that he bought for $600 running and brother drove it home. A tune up some vacuum line fixing and some cleaning and she runs like a top. So far dad put a new turn signal cam and all electrical in the steering wheels to fix the brake light issue and now it is going to be dad's DD while his F150 is down for a roller 302 build. The right fender needs replaced, the interior needs some TLC, and the seats only have covers covering the ripped seats. The only thing modded on it currently is dual exhaust, running boards, polyurethane bushings, American racing AR636 ventura 15x8 with new 235s on it (bought this way). Body side moulding dad removed a painted where it was black. This bronco will see mud and snow yet dad doesn't mud like me he tries to keep it clean.

Mods planned is: 35-255-5 comp cam, slightly higher compression pistons, Headers, better dual exhaust, new paint, 31s, bug deflector, new stereo system, and new seats. Overall dad likes the bronco being stock but there is somethings you just can't leave stock.

Now for my Bronco named Brahma (Brahma Bull). She is a 83 Bronco 4x4 351W carbed C6 3.55LS XLT with manual windows. This bronco has no dings in the body at all but the tailgate is rusted out. I will either find a new one or cut out the rust and fix that part. It sat for 13 years in phoenix and the rubber rotted out and rain sat at the bottom of the tailgate rusting it out. I am the second owner of her. I traded straight across for a 89 Chevy K2500 4x4 350 that I was going to fix up but lost interest. I got the chevy running and registered for a total investment of $250. It had only 5 psi of oil pressure but the guy just wanted the transmission from it. All the interior needs is to be cleaned up and the seat fixed. The wood grain just needs a polish and it will be perfect.
The engine got the carb taken off to be rebuilt by the PO and he lost interest in it that was fine by me as I am throwing the carb in the parts room and putting on an Edelbrock carb.
I plan to use this bronco for longer distance drives and switch between my 88 F150 and this for DD status. It also will see mud and snow but probably won't drive it a lot in the snow since it is carbed and my 88 is EFI. I am a huge mudder so this truck will get muddy just like my 88 and I drive a lot faster then dad so this will have more engine.

So plan for this one: 4" lift 33's KO2s wrapped around MT Classic lock IIIs or similar 15x8s old 15x8 chrome wagon wheels will go under my 88 once cleaned up, new chrome front bumper or straighten old one depends (got bent when towing home) with brush guard, some lights (when I say some I mean a lot LOL), carpet removed for vinyl floors, maybe remove wood grain or at least some not a huge wood grain guy, billet chrome or polished grille, POR15 the frame, new paint (Brown sugar metallic where the tan is and boulevard black where the dark brown is from Eastwood paint), all the rubber replaced, suspension upgraded to polyurethane, Full JVC stereo with new speakers, amp, and sub (I love a good bass), good DD high power cam, new torque convertor, either some new heads or port the heads myself, new edelbrock intake and 650 carb, new pistons for a 9.5:1 compression ratio, new valve covers and air cleaner, all new igniton system, braided stainless fuel lines, MM or warn hubs, the C6 will be built just like my 88s will be which will be a stage 2 with shift kit, new dash pad (Arizona sun cracked it), headers with better dual exhaust glasspacks no cats before tire each side, and probably more I can't think of right now.

First thing will be getting the engine rebuilt and trans rebuilt. Mine probably will be slower then dad's since I make less then him plus I have more plans and I have to put money still in my DD which has a fresh rebuilt 302.

I will post pics in a few.

Sweet deal. Sounds like it should be fun! Working on trucks has always been one of my favorite things to do with my dad and it is nice to do when i visit. Kind of lets us forget about our own problems or responsibilities for a while and get some cool work done.

I will either be doing the Duraspark 2 swap or put a whole new MSD 6A ignition in it depends on what I decide on.

Ya it should be a very fun project indeed.

Started cleaning out Brahma and found a dollar in change and 11 9mm and 5 .45 casings all empty. Funny since dad has 2 .45s and I am wanting to get a 9 when I turn 21.

Also found out my Brahma has duraspark II already since it is an 83 which was the last year of it. So I will be putting all new ignition module, distributor, and coil on just to be sure it is new.

I did make up my plan (entire list of parts) for my brahmas engine build:
.030 over flat top pistons
Gt40 heads
Summit 600cfm carb and intake kit the edelbrock 1406 I wanted has no kickdown option so I can't use it with my C6.
new chrome valve covers
headers
35-416-3 comp cam in the kit with new valve springs, lifters, timing chain, and camshaft.
and the rest are rebuild essentials.

Dad has been using Avalanche to pull our 16ft flatbed for a side job and it is handling very well.

New heater core in the Avalanche but still need to replace the thermostat as the heater isn't getting hot enough yet.

Found out the cab I have for our 92 F250 that has a complete dash (minus radio bezel) has a black style bull nose cluster surround. Dad has no need for it so going to put it on my bronco and then will just have to find the radio bezel one. That will eliminate the wood grain minus on the door panels which I am undecided on what I am doing on them. I just know I don't care or wood grain so getting rid of it somehow.

so plans changed up quite a bit on my 83 bronco. I picked up a 95 bronco also that I plan to build close to my original plans for my 83.

My 83 will now get a 4-6" lift with 35" tires wrapped around fuel krank 18x9 +1mm offset 5" backspacing a full color change inside and out (outside meteor gray metallic and black inside gray and black), smoking out a bunch of the lights custom headlights that I like. Motor and exhaust will be the same but I am going to stick a ZF5 in place of the C6.

So updates are that I started taking the trim off Brahma to start getting ready for paint. Started sanding the hood and roof. Found a hole in the roof by the drip rail that we will have to fix, and a couple of dings that we will have to fix. The Key cylinder on the drivers side will need some work to get back right. Taking me a while to get a lot done since I can only work on it after work. I also have to work on my 88 F150.

Avalanche is my dd for now while I take the C6 from Brahma and stick it in my 88. It now has a brush guard on it but no pics of that.

I am the one on the top sanding the roof.

I like the ZF5 choice. Did the bullnoses come with cable or hydraulic clutches?

The 84 F250 that I will be using the clutch assembly from if it is in good shape (it was a parts truck for another truck) had a t18 hydraulic clutch and my cousins 83 bronco 460 swap has a hydraulic clutch to.

Hopefuly my NP208 tcase will bolt up to the ZF5 otherwise I am going to have to swap to a different tcase and I would like to keep the 208.

I already know the 351W ZF5 combo and how it feels since my retired work truck is that with 4.10s.

got the rest of the chrome trim off, all the lights off, spare tire rack, drivers door panel, the rear carpet, and mirrors all off. Still got bumpers, passenger door panel, exterior door handles, and the top to take off before ready to finish up the sanding. Might have a lead on another tailgate not sure yet. The tailgate panel will be removed and cleaned up and put on the new tailgate.

I may have missed the post, are you going to be painting it yourself, or sending it off?

The sanding reminds me of when I just painted mine! However with mine, no one helped me! I painted my brothers truck and my friends car so they obviously helped then, but they weren't around to help me when I painted mine!

Painting is pretty fun.... but it's also very frustrating. When I painted my truck, I didn't mix the first batch of red paint well enough in the gun before spraying. I was wondering why on the driver side why the paint was coming out thick and orange pee like. Then when I got to the passenger side, it was coming out so wet and too thin. It then proceeded to make runs over the entire panel and it looked horrible.

I proceeded to use tons of reducer to wipe the whole side and then re spray. Thankfully it didn't ruin my paint job!

Dad will be doing all the spray gun work I am doing the rest. Dad has done lots of painting before so having him do it. My eye isn't good enough to tell if I do something wrong. Also everybody around here even a good friend of mine wants $800 to do a paint job like I want that is if I buy the materials and do all the prep work. Not game for that at all.

I have to get out there soon and start laying out ideas in pencil on it to see how I want the scheme since I don't want just another regular two tone.

I also forgot I need to get the engine and trans out before I go farther engine will go on a stand to be cleaned and see how much I need to do.

Cool projects. It's nice that your dad has the love of Bronco's and passed it along to you! I still need to buff the paint on my Bronco but life keeps getting in the way...
