Ok, so I ordered a used motor from JJ's Auto Salvage out of Kentucky. I got it on the motor stand today and started tearing into it. everything was ok, mostly, but I noticed that the return line excluded injectors 1 and 2. The circuit was complete but 1 and 2 don't even have the return line cups on them; just bare O rings. Just to be clear, the injector lines are hooked up and tight, just no return line. My question: has anyone seen this before and what is the reason for it. kinda made me nervous like those 2 cylinders have been bypassed or something. Any knowledge on this issue would be much appreciated. Thanks
More than likely the salvage company wasn't as careful as they could have been and dropped/hit something on the caps that broke them and they fell off while cleaning or transit.
No reason, they are just missing and the engine wasn't driven like that or there would be excessive fuel leaking that is not going back to the tank. Caps, O-rings, return lines and clamps should be replaced anyway (purchased as a kit) . The length of hose between the caps is exactly 4 inches (as I recall - confirm that measure) three 4 inch lengths on each side and if all cut and clamped onto the caps first, that assembly can be pushed down over the injectors and the lines will be straight. Touch of engine oil on the new O-rings first.
Don't forget to take apart and remove the clamps on each side that hold and space the injector lines before disconnecting lines from the injectors to install the return caps. You want to avoid putting stress on the lines and bending them. Don't forget to put the clamps back on when finished. If you have to move a steel line further than just putting return caps on the injectors, loosen the line connection at the pump also.
I know that sounds like trivia but some people might not be aware of it.
