78 f-250 starting problems
hello i have just bought a 78 f-250 4x4 and it will not start from the key switch you have to jump the silinod . it has an automatic trans. is there a neutral safty switch some where on these trucks? if so how do you fix them? thanks

The switch is on the side of the transmission.
I usually suggest taking it off and clean it with lacquer thinner, then WD-40.
Normally the Backup light part of that goes before the neutral start switch part does.
At the Starter SOLENOID, trace the wire back to the middle of the firewall . There should be a grey connector with 4 wires coming out of it.

If you look on the fire wall just to the passenger side you'll see the plug for the neutral safety switch. The Blue w/red stripe is the solenoid wire. If the switch is trashed, splice the Blue/red after the plug and you will be able to bypass the switch.
I just bought one last week. It was $88. OUCH!
The guy I bought it from overheated the tranny so bad it melted the plastics in the switch. Double OUCH!
