Has anyone tried these in their rig? i have heard mised reviews of them and i was wondering overall how would yall rate them on performance gains, ease of installation, and overall how much better will it make the engine run?
If you get any performance gains, it won't be too much. From what I've heard, a spacer can make maybe 5...6 hps? I really don't know. If you are planning on decking your ride out with tons of parts, every little thing helps. But if you are just goin to get a spacer, you won't notice a thing.
are you talking about a phenolic spacer? I would think it would be better just to put a spacer between the upper and lower intake maifold. that would keep the upper intake, throttle bady, and MAF sensor from getting any transmitted heat.
i agree totally with true4.2. may not even do anything at all. I put one on my 1998 Jeep Wrangler 2.5 (not a Ranger) because i wanted to lift the intake up a little to clear my after market open element air filter. The spacer was just enough that it worked perfect for the clearance i needed, as for improving perf on a 2.5 4 cyl Jeep- no. But they could make more difference with, say, a V-8 or 4.0 V-6. If you decide to put one on- let us know how it works. But i wouldnt expect a new engine after you do it! J.D., KCK
I cant tell you about the throtle body spacers, but all the dyno reports i've say a phenolic spacer between the upper and lower intke will increase your tork by a notable margine, simply because you lenghtened the intake runners. im not sya this from experience, just from the reports i've read. DW
phenolic spacers are not so much for the added height, but for the heat insulating purposes. A G10 phenolic plastic spacer will drastically cut down transmitted heat into the upper intake manifold and MAF, keeping the intake air much cooler and thus denser.
yes heat insulating is a added benifit but when you extend the runner lenght, whether its with a alum. or phen. spacer you increase low end tork, thats why the truck intakes are taller than there passenger car counter parts. DW
true, but you loose hp in the high rpm's. the reflective value will be too long. The length of the runners depends greatly on applications: for example with my taurus I want the runners tuned for about 2500 rpm's. I'm sure you truck owners would want it lower, for towing especially.
the question was in regard to trucks, HP dosent move heavy trucks. tork does, and were talkin street motors here, looseing HP in the upper rpms is just fine considering on the street you'll be in the 1500-3500 rpm range 85% of the time. thnx DW
I was looking into getting a throttle body spacer but i couldnt find one for my 94 4x4 4.0L ranger. if you guys know who makes one or where i can find one that would be great
if you want low end torque, then i suggest getting a prted, polished, and tuned length intake. Adding a phenolic spacer to do that is just trying to guess at a length.

Oh well i gues all these well respected engine builders and the dyno reports were just WRONG? DW
