I'm trying to find a new pan for my leaking C4 but can't seem to. I wonder if it's an ID problem? My pan has a "bump" in the bottom of it, with the dipstick port located on the passenger side. All the pans I see offered for C4s online are flat-bottomed, and no dipstick.
One person told me the Bronco C4 is a 4x4 version and the bump is to allow room for a different filter.
The problem still remains, I can't find a replacement. Any ideas?
I think the pan is specific to the bronco. I was told it was to hold a little more fluid. If you go to buy a filter, you have to buy the one that a pick up tube fits into. Our parts store ordered me the wrong one twice, so I said screw it and used the old one after a thourough cleaning. My suggestion is to order a new pan. It will be straight with no dings. Be sure not to over tighten, I made the mistake twice. Now it has a rubber seal that held up to my ft lb arm strong torque wrench. Now if I could only get the shifter input rod to stop leaking!!!!
The pan you need is Bronco specific. The deep sump allows for constant fluid pick up in off road situations. BUT, the distick hole is common on flat pans that was used in all trucks and vans and some cars up thru the early 80's. The older flat nosed Econoline vans (67-74) are common and a good source. Using a flat pan requires the standard filter that fits everything but Broncos.
What is wrong with the one you have other than it leaks? There has been one on ebay for several months. Its new and he wants $125 for it. I wouldnt be that desparate yet. They cant be that hard to find. Have you called any of the known Bronco specialists? Toms, Wild Horses, BC Broncos, Jeffs Graveyard, Macs, Bronco Connection, James Duff...
That's just it, it leaks! Doesn't make the landlord happy, if you know what I mean. Right now I'm going to try welding to see if that stops it. (It's coming from the dipstick area, I think someone cross-threaded somewhere down the line)
But, if that doesn't work, I'll be looking for a replacement.
No, I haven't tried any of the Bronco sites you mentioned, and I guess I must have missed the ebay guy!
