Rear end differential

Hi all,

Have an 88 F150 351W, have done some modifications such as a OD trans. Need a rear end 373 with posi track. Know where i can find one?? Also, is there a big difference between 373 and 355 gears. Can I towe a 16ft bass boat in od with 355 gears??

Thanks

Really if your gonna pull that much boat and still want OD, you should seriously consider 4:10 gears. 3:73 gears were not available with the 8.8" axle from the factory. However you can get aftermarket gears. Basically, as you may know, the lower the gears the more rpm and towing power you will have.

I know people are constantly preaching not to use OD while towing. It is a little weaker and causes the engine to bog under load. However, as long as your engine is not constantly searching between gears and is turning decent RPM it is ok. A 16' bass boat weights squat. You'll just have to try it out and see what happens. If you live in hilly terrain it would probably be best to not us OD but if the road is relatively flat it will be no problem.

I put the MSD in my truck (95 5.0), I gained maybe 1 mpg and didn't notice any real power gain, even when I changed to wider gaped plugs. I figure it's been in there for a year, if I gained 1 mpg the thing has probably paid for itself by now.
