I just acquired my father in laws ford f250 two door long bed 4x4 with the 5.4 and it needs a lot of work it was a northern truck and has exhaust leaks from the manifolds back. and i am going to have to replace exhaust but would like some options on what sounds good to yall.
i like loud but i do not like the popping sounds i have heard from a lot of youtube videos that i have seen. i do not want to straight pipe my wife would be very ticked at me for that. i am not looking for a rattle my neighbors windows on a cold startup but something that has a nice aggressive sound but that will not drone to bad in the cab and not something that i am going to get tired of hearing.
what are some options that yall may have heard or run now
If you need manifolds back your best bet is a local exhaust shop. Before you get an exhaust done I'd evaluate the condition of the manifolds. They may need replaced as well.
Stock manifolds and exhaust will give you a nice quiet system but you could add some headers a magnaflow exhaust and a tune will get you more torque and HP.
not really looking for more power and I was planning on just getting some good quality oem style manifolds. I do not want to go full on crazy with the truck but just get it back to the way it used to operated and function back in 2000 but if I could improve the sound a bit while im in there that would be good
I just searched this topic & thank all you for comments.
I have a 2006 F250 4x4 with the 5.4L - my CAT is clogged & in need of replacement ASAP. Local exhaust shop recommends the Magnaflow for that nice LOW TONE (not loud & obnoxious) that I am looking for & probably FordF2501 as well. I was told by a Ford guy to go with the touring version & not the sport? I cant find either on MF's website.
Any other experience with MF or suggestions pertaining to this? THANKS!
I went through with new exhaust at Pitts Exhaust in Auburndale, FL. this is the 6th truck they have done for me in 15 years. I got the Magnaflow muffler with a single 3" exhaust to rear with a 4" tip. They did replace BOTH clogged CATs (not new performance cats, just standard aftermarket replacements). Couldn't be happier - muffler has a great LOW TONE that is not loud but you will hear it if you get on the throttle. It may be perhaps a tad quieter than I expected but I like it regardless. Magnaflow has won this guy over & it has greatly improved the drive. Truck MPG went up & power is clearly returned. Clogged CATs are why the previous owner thought the truck's motor was blown & why it kept going into "low power" mode. great choice for the 5.4L & I'm never running dual pipes again, single out "diesel style" from now on. My exhaust shop said you will improve the low end power this way & they were right, immediately noticed it when we put the 5K lb trailer behind it.
