Another damn rim question

Alright I know the 2004 and down SD can only use the newer rims with a wheel spacer.
Can a set of rims from 2004 fit a 2011 if it's 17" to clear the brakes?
I know the back spacing is different because of the change from leaf springs to independent front suspension. The 05' and up has less back spacing to keep the wheel under the fender .
So other than the wheel sticking out further is there a reason you can't use a 04' earlier 17" rim on an 11'?

As long as it's 8x170 it should fit the new trucks

The main difference is it will stick out 2 inches farther stock vs. stock.

The only rims over 16" available for the SD prior to the '05 suspension changes were the now rare '04 18"s, they came in 4 similar but slightly different versions. This thread explains the difference and has pictures to show the various styles. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...excursion.html

They would fit on an '11 but the tires would be spaced about 1.75" outboard of the stock locations.
