We won't install anything larger than a 5" block in my shop, and even that is rare. The real issue is the distance between the spring and axle. The greater the distance the greater the leverage which works against the u-bolts. Rear springs is a better alternative, but I realize that they don't fit into everyone's budget. As such be sure to use good quality hardened u-bolts, torque them to spec., and check them often.
the most i would ever run is a 4" and i dont even like that. my suburban has 4"ers on it and i hate them im about to get a shackle flip for it that will net about 5.5" with the stock springs. so if you can, get springs or avoid blocks over 4" tall.
I generally tend to avoid more than 3 blocks totalling 14 inches or more in the front In the rear the possibilities are endless.
Seriously though, I had stacked blocks in my 96 F350 CC. I had a 4 incher stacked on top of my stocker for years and never had 1 problem with it. I bought the all spring kit for my 99 but that's because I'm made of money now
If I decide to put a little more lift on my truck I will accomplish this in the rear with a taller block. I wouldn't hesitate to put a 5.5 inch block in the rear of mine. That's my .02 and I don't own a lift kit shop but I've done several.
Disclaimer: Please note the huge quantity of sarcasm in first paragraph. Never put blocks in the front of your truck. Especially if you have Kenworth wheels
Heck why can't you just make up something and weld it to the axle. Something real beefy with lotsa bracing. Heck why have springs just weld everything together. I think I may have the ultimate 25" lift idea. Where's Silver gotta tell him..
what i have is a 4" lift on my truck right now and i only want to add like 2-3 inches more to clear 36's So i was going to buy the 2.5 hanger kit and replace the 3" block in the rear with a 5"
my 4" came with 1.5 " blocks for the rear but i ended up using 3" blocks to level my truck kinda wierd i thought
thanks for the info ... I also dont want to put a lot of money in this becuase its not even my truck. well its mine but parents own it =)
