[updated:LAST EDITED ON 31-Jan-02 AT 08:56 PM (EST)]Ok i got a 95 F150 4x4 302 v8 shortbed, now i called the dealer to find out what size tanks are in the truck, they said there was a 17 and 19 gallon tank available. Now the question is right now the gauge is on a quarter tank and theres a little over 150 miles on the trip odometer and thats probly about 100 or a little more miles of highway driving. I have a feeling that the float in the tank is heading south because last week when i went to fill up i was in between a quarter and a half with 136 miles on the odometer and it took ten gallons to fill and i got 13.6 miles to the gallon. Its not a gas mileage problem obviously. Where there tanks smaller than 17 gallons offered or am i correct and my float is heading south, u tell me. The gauge doesnt bob or jump around it works smoothly like it should but i dont think its accurate, is there a way to fix this? What type of mileage do some of you guys get to around a quarter tank? Madman666 i think u could help me on this one. Thanks guys.
The front tanks on the short wheelbase are 16.5 gal.
I assume the dealer just rounded off.
And the long wheel base trucks have the 19.0 gal.
I think your float is ok, you first checked your mileage at 136, and your gas gauge was in-between half and a quarter of a tank. If you would have gone 14 more miles, then you’d be at 150 miles, and probably a quarter of a tank, understand?
Do this a couple more times and I’ll bet it will be pretty constant.
Nice chatting with ya!
Thanx again madman666, Im gonna filler up today and see what i get. That is such a small tank to be in a truck with a v8, i had a '88 full size gmc jimmy with a 350 that had a 31 gallon tank. I feel like im always going to the gas station with this thing.
I have a 1991 F150 with dual tanks. If I run both tanks to "empty" on the gages (or pretty close), I put a total of about 22 gallons in the truck, fairly evenly split. I always thought that was so odd....and wonder if I really have more gas in the tank.
