Hey all. After 369,000 miles its finally time to send my 99 Navigator to the graveyard. So my question is im looking at a newer Navigator 03 and newer and what should I stay away from when looking. Aka what are the good years and bad years. I understand the talk about cam phasers on 5.4l engines and I am not sure what years are the good ones and bad ones. Obviously I keep vehicles for a long time and do all my own mechanic work but I don't want to get into a money pit of a Navigator. Thanks
Remember that there is a 5.4 litre 3 valve SOHC and 5.4 32 valve DOHC. I have 2004 5.4 32 valve DOHC with no cam phaser. Engine has been good for me so far at 120k mile.
I just bought a fully loaded '06 Navigator Limited. I have put 4000 miles in 30 days. Has a total of 112k on it now. Snapped a spark plug. (It has 5.4l 3v) However the repair was less scary than I thought it would be. And yes I do most of my own mechanic work. So far no other issues as I go through the entire truck.
Avoid 2007 navi models. I have a 2004 with 210k orig engine and trans no problems in ten yrs. Few months ago bought 2007 with 50k miles and some major factory defects i have discovered including faulty fuel pump and speed sensors making antilock brakes throw on for no reason. Costing lots to fix. Avoid 2007 and 2008 models if u can.
