Try To Decode This Casting Number!
Hey I have a 300 IL 6 and found these casting numbers I am not new at this but this is the only Real Casting number on this block. I am only good at decoding 302's & up Any how here it is....
D T E 6 0 1 A A, there is a whole crap load of numbers but this one looks like a 302 casting number minus all the extra digits. If you guys can not do it tell me where I can.

That isn't what is traditionally called a casting number, that looks more like a date stamp. I don't have a reference for this, but I'll give it a try.
D=month, April
T= date, 20th
E=decade, 80's
6= year, 6 (so 1986)
The other 4 digits tell things like which line it came from, which shift, hour of day, etc.
The casting numbers decode the same for all Ford parts, there is no difference between any of the engine families.
