My 2016 f250 xl didn't come with mirror lights. My road is kinda narrow and I would like to have the mirror lights so oncoming vehicles will see them at night. Do I have to get the entire mirror assembly, or can I just add the lights? Is the harness already in the door, or would I have to tap into my parking lights? Would this kit work?
Nope sorry. There are no wires in your mirrors and likely not in your doors either. You could double check by pulling the boot in your door jam, but probably no power at all in your doors. You would have to run wires to both doors from under the dash and get new mirrors with the lights in them.
Honestly. If I just needed something for people to see them, I would find a reflective tape or marker with double sided tape and stick it on the mirror.
I can handle running some wire up the door into the mirror, I guess what I'm wondering, will the little panel in the base mirrors pop out and allow the lights to pop in like the xlt mirrors? Or is that all molded in? I think I found a better kit from stage 3 motor sports.
I've not looked at a mirror without a light, but - if you move the glass all the way in and up, then look behind the mirror, you may see a plastic tab. Press the tab in (you'll need a screwdriver) and forward to release the panel. This is how the lenses are released to change the bulbs when they burn out.
If you don't see a tab, then I'd figure the panel is molded in and needs to be cut out to install a light.
If you look at those Recon lights, you will be able to see the tab I'm talking about. It's not the little one sticking out past the edge of the light (I don't know what that's about), it's the larger tab located between the two lamp sockets and between the sockets and flat edge of the light. On my OEM lights that tab is grey.
Hope this helps.
Looked at one of our work trucks here at the plant that has the mirror lights. I saw the tab. I just hope my mirrors have a removable panel to pop a light it. Probably not, I'll find out here in a little while. It's real wishful thinking, but maybe I'll get real lucky and the harness will be in the door.
Well, bad news, it's not even molded for light. I guess I could find something that would work by cutting at hole, but I don't want to mess up a brand new set of factory mirrors, and I don't want something cheesy looking. So, all the people putting these later model mirrors on, what's the best bang for your buck? Should I bite the bullet and put ford factory replacements on, or is someone building a quality aftermarket?

Depends how much you want to spend. I got mine a couple years ago. When I checked, the Ford mirrors were 400 dollars each or something crazy like that. I got mine aftermarket on amazon for 198. One of the mirrors had a weird wave in it when I got it. It seems to have gone away over time (or im just used to it). I have heard good things about the ones they sell on 1aauto. But who knows, they could be the same thing.
Thanks toohuge, wow 800 would be rediculous just to have 2 lights, I'd wait till someone hit it before spending that. But this is a brand new truck, so I don't want to throw some eBay junk on there. If I knew those were good quality id buy them. Or if I new for sure just the mirror case and arms were good, I could use my factory glass. But I'm sure you get what you pay for. Since this isn't going to be a cheap deal anymore, I think I will hold off and get my windows tinted for now. I've got a list of goodies I want, step bars for the wife and kids, uplifter switches for some lights, keyless entry w/ remote start(yes, manual Windows and locks = no keyless entry) and oversized bfg ko's. I'm sure the list will grow, but that's a start.
I also figured out today that manual Windows and locks has no lights on the mirrors. 2 xl's here at work have the power package with lights and the manual truck is like mine with no lights. This leaves me to believe the harness for the mirror lights is probably with the windows and locks harness.
I put on Chinese mirrors, and I am pleased with them, but the lights on the style I have are really aimed sideways. I had to run all of the wires for lighted, heated, power mirrors, but I enjoyed that. It's all in one plug, so it may be that the power adjustable mirrors, if that was included, triggers lights. All the wiring or none.
The mirrors with the light, will also have the movement control **** wired in on the door armrest. I think they're heated too. And if You're going that far, why not get the telescoping ones that do everything?
A lot of the stuff you want to add would have been much easier to do with the power equipment group. I don't know if you have a single cab or a crew cab. But getting power and lock actuators to 4 doors sounds like a PITA to me. Then you have switches and door panels to change. And I think you would have to go with an aftermarket keyless. It kinda sounds like a nightmare.
