Hi gents.
Quick question:
I have the midfifty adjustable shackles, matching rear shackle and y hanger to suit, so I am ready to go.
First thing I am guessing I have to do is support the rear axle. Okay, once I have a jack under there and a couple of stands under the chassis, which bit should I take off first?
I got a tad confused when I checked the midfifty site as they had instructions showing the shackle holding bolts already removed.
Would it be best to leave the old shackle bolted up and take out the bushing or vice versa or would it not matter?
Thanks
Peter
ps I am also armed with the trusty midfifty bushing removal tool!
Lower the axle from the springs
Remove springs
Remove original brackets from the frame. I used an air chisel to cut the rivets
Remove the brass bushings from the springs and the new Y shackle.
Install new poly bushings into springs and Y shackle. They are a tight fit.
Bolt new brackets to the frame.
Install Y shackle to rear bracket.
Install springs.
You should lube the new poly bushings and spring bolts with a poly bushing
lube first.
I hope this helps
Thanks. I'll knock the studs out and go from there. Interestingly, one side is bolted and one has original studs. Something has happened in the dim and distant past...
Guys. Managed to get the new shackles in there with a lot of help from my brother, who gave me lots of advice and assisted with, well, practically everything.
I have documented the event here. no point in repeating the same stuff I guess.
Yeah. I told him that but he said he thought it might sit too low compared to the front. I've got the guards back on again now and it looks a bit better than before, but I might reverse them around when I strip it all down next year for a respray.
I'll put a pic up later to show you how it's looking. See what you reckon.
