What about the calibration number matching that I'm reading about? Mine is a 6-98d and I can't find that anywhere. It looks like advance auto and autozone both have the F6 BSA but their calibration numbers don't match mine.

The 6-98d has a missing part and are you sure it had a d in it or was that some other letter.

These are the only calibration numbers I come up with for your year and engine.

I went ahead and ordered a new Cardone PCM for the truck. It arrived today and I installed it. The truck started right up and it runs amazingly now! You can barely even hear the engine now.

I drove it around 10 miles, but then it wouldn't start when I came out of the FLAPS. I pulled the Spout and it started right up. It died on the way home and I had to pull the spout again to get it home.

Should I try to replace the spout connector at this point? I'm impressed with how the truck runs now, if I could just get this ignition stuff settled.

Thanks,

- Shawn

Pull the SPOUT out and start the engine and check the base timing with a timing light. Should be 10 Deg BTDC.
If the timing is OK check the SPOUT wire in the harness for a short to ground between the SPOUT connector and the Computer.
If no short is found replace the PIP sensor in the distributor.

I'm not equipped to test timing, or would I even know how. What else might cause timing to be off?

Also, will replacing the distributor replace the PIP sensor? I foolishly installed a MSD and wish I had gone motorcraft.

Thanks,
- Shawn

Yes replacing the distributor will replace the PIP sensor.
But I would not throw parts at it until you check the timing.
A timing light should not cost that much and if you replace the distributor you will need one anyway.

Is that something I could take it to a shop to check? I don't know how to test timing.

I already replaced the dist. when I got the truck and started having issues with it. So that might be part of my problem.

I had a friend of mine replace the entire distributor yesterday. It was a super easy part to replace, but he knew how to make sure the new one when in the same as the old one came out. I was not comfortable doing that.

But, I've driven the truck three times so far and have not had any issues. Before I was having issues every time I drove it, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The new PCM is wonderful and well worth the time replacing it (even if that was not the entire problem), and the truck is running very well.

Thanks again!!
