Not the truck in my sig but a new to us 2000 F450. No power to switch or wiper motor or washer pump. Checked related fuses. It also has an abs light and interior light malfunction. I searched and read about GEM problems. Planning to dig out the GEM and clean contacts check for moisture ect.
I found time to tear into this truck and this is what I found. Here is a shot of the back of the circuit board that is the GEM module. Looks like we had a meltdown.
Other than the burnout it looks clean and dry. The fuse block, however has obviously seen some water and mud to boot.
I plan to send the GEM to the for mentioned rebuilder. I am still somewhat concerned about the fuse block. Can someone tell me how to take it apart, it seems to be in 2 halves but the mounting bolts that also receive the 2 big connector bolts prevent it from opening on that end. I have no Idea what is inside there but there is a little green between the case halves and I know It has been wet.
My fear is that I get the GEM repaired than plug it into a bad fuse block, then "poof she was gone".
It takes them a few days but they did exactly what they promised. The other guy was cheaper but they did not do my particular part #.
I sure had my fingers crossed when I hooked the batteries back up. It did not go poof and everything seems to be working except the horn, when I find it I'll smack it with a hammer.
Thanx to the forum for turning me on to FORscan. We had a few codes related to the GEM, cleared them and they have not come back.
