05 excursion 6.0 Heard I was suppose to removed glow plugs to purge possibly oil filled cylinders that was a job. Turned it over 2 twice with a 30 sec rest. Went to get new glow plugs, thought I'd turn it over again before install and nothing, might be the battery only had one hooked up. Could I have shorted something out just turning it over with glow plugs out? Also do you have to replace the plastic wire cover just above the glow plug cap/cork, they cracked just a small gap when taking them off.
Our trucks have 2 batteries for a reason, they need them both to start. I have never got mine to start on just one battery. Granted, I have only tried it 2 or 3 times, but it has not worked.
Could be the battery but it would not even engage the starter where about 10 minutes before it was turning the motor. If there isn't enough voltage will it not even engage the starter?
I hope that is the problem, I got worried I broke it trying to fix it. The one battery did crank the motor over about 10 sec then a rest and again about 10 sec but that could have been the end of it's juice in doing so, and there isn't much resistance with the glow plugs out, so the motor would turn easy if it would just engage. Just seemed weird that it was turning over just 10 min before.
Not sure on newer vehicles but older trucks had a switch that would engage if the vehicle was in a roll over (basically a check ball) if that was tripped you would have to go and reset it. Seems like that wouldnt be the case since you said it was cranking at one point.
