hi i have a problem with my engine pinging or gurgling under load.
it idles fine but when you get on it it pings. it has only 60,000 mi. this vehicle is a t-bird, but i thought it might be similar to the f150 motor. any help would be greatly appreciated.(this is my moms car - i am trying to help her out.) thanks
i replaced the plugs and wires but thats about it. i dont know to much about these newer motors, but i guess i will have to learn. how would cleaning the maf affect perfomance ? the engine sounds like it is over timed , but there is no distributor to adjust. any advice would be appreciated.
A dirty MAF makes the car's PCM not know exactly how much air is flowing into the engine and can also make it not know the temperature of the air. Both of these things can change the air/fuel ratio and the ignition timing. For instance, the PCM thinks there is only a bit of air going into the engine as if it had a light load so it adjusts the timing and fuel to suit that.
Have you ever had the car scanned for trouble codes?
hi racer guy. i have never tried scanning for codes. yesterday i took the maf out and cleaned it. no more pinging ! car runs great. i had no idea that a dirty maf could affect timing. thanks for all the help.
