Hey all! I have a 69 1/2 ton SWB 4x4. I currently have a 351W with a farmer 4 behind it and what I have been told is a NP205 transfer case. I am currently rebuilding a 76 390 and I am looking at putting a C6 auto behind the motor. The question I have is what are my options as far as transfer cases go? The one that is currently in the truck is strictly an "in out" and I would like the option of 4 hi and 4 low. What other parts will I need to come up with to make the swap. Any help is appreciated.
Where should we start. First your going to need the correct motor mounts as the 351 is going to be different than the 390. If you want to go with the c6 your most likely going to have to fabricate a new trans mount or try a universal ordeal from Auto krafters , Etc. Also how do you want your transfer mounted. Im assuming with the limited space your going to want a direct mount trans/ transfer case. The transfer case you have now is not a np205, as a np 205 will have 2wd, n ,4wd lo and 4wd hi.not sure on what exactly what you have though as you said you only have a single speed. So your going to need a donor c6/ np 205 direct direct mounted set up from a 77.5 -79 ford truck. The c6 from a 77.5 - 79 wount fit your 390 engine so you will need a 390 c6 for the case to put the 77.5-79 internals in, so you can have the direct mounted setup and then you will have to play with the driveshafts as they maybe to long or short. So good luck and have fun.
I guess I was confused earlier, the engine and Transmission both came out of a 73 1/2 ton 2wd so that should take care of the mating problem. I took the crossmember for the tranny out of this truck also so I should be able to make that work also. I was also told that I would need a intermediate tail housing for a C6 to 205 to get the tranny and transfer case to mount up (sounds like the NP 205 is the transfer case I need) Anything else I need to watch out for?
