I have a knock ! (hoping its just an injector)
No engine light, No drivability issues 190k
Not there at start up, not there right after a drive. any thoughts?
Thanks!
I've had a louder engine with a dose of low cetane fuel. Yours sounds like one cylinder only, but you might try some cetane booster. Hope you don't have a big expense coming up.
That definitely sounds like a knock. A power balance test would be start, to be followed by killing cylinders individually to isolate the problem cylinder(s).
Thanks guys. What I find strange is that it doesn't always do it. Seems only if it idles for a bit?
Power balance test. This is something like a compression test for diesels? (sorry, kind of lost with diesels..)
Would a dealer do this? or do I need to find an independent?
I just wish that there was a dealer around here that I could trust...
Yes, that is a test using IDS (Ford Dealership Scan Tool). Since you don't mention any roughness to go along with your knock, it may be a little difficult to pinpoint. If it's any consolation, I have only replaced ONE engine in the five years this engine has been in production. The 6.0L and 6.4L on the other hand......
Got it... M-Chan, I wonder if I should just come to you? I am not too far.. I am in Niagara.
Correct though, the truck runs great! Lots of power, super smooth
I don't have a problem connecting my IDS to run the test described (for a fee of course). But Randy Barkwill at the Ford dealer local to you should be able to look after you, if it's inconvenient for you to drive up to my neck of the woods.
I do like to venture to Clifton Hill in Niagara on the weekends actually, so if I find myself coming that way, I could perhaps stop off to run a couple of tests the next time.

I have heard of Randy. I just don't like the dealership he moved to, but more important that I get a good Tech. so I could live with it..
But yeah, feel free to PM me if you are heading this way, that could work too.. I am right near the QEW
I would look for a broken or loose accessory bracket or pulley.. It's a knock and metallic, but with no loss of power or oil pressure, you may be getting lucky...
UPDATE: So I brought it to dealer and of course there was no knock.. Went back the next day, and we could hear it, so as it turns out it was an injector. Going in for injector number 2. will update.. Thanks for the insight guys..
