Crazy A/C Problem!!

My '99 F150 extended Cab XLT has this crazy A/C problem. When the selector switch is on floor, the air blows out the defrost vents. When the switch is on the other selections, the air blows out the appropriate vents. What's up with that?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Crazy A/C Problem!!

sounds like a vacuum line off to the heater door. When there is no vacuum, it automatically defaults to the defrost vents.

just get under the dash and look for a loose hose or one that may be broken,

Crazy A/C Problem!!

Some of the early models had a problem with the linkage coming off the door up inside the plenum. That would be the actuator near the accelerator pedal, mounted to the bottom of the plenum facing straight up. What you have to do is pull the actuator, and bend the end of the rod to a sharper angle so it wont have the tendancy to fall off. Its tricky to get it hooked onto the door and requires some youthfull patience..
