paint prep recommendations
I asked one of the guys that does some paint/bodywork, but he does more graphics on cars and trucks then he does prep and paint. But here is my scenario:
Started sanding the inside of the cab. Buddy suggested just sanding off the paint down to the primer with 180 then sand the primer with 400 grit. But try not to sand down to the metal
Problem.
Sanded in some areas to the metal.
Buddy said that after sanding down some areas to the metal, when its painted, you will be able to see all the places I went to the metal.
The guy at work said no problem, spot shot the spots I went to the metal with a etching primer (spray can kind would work). Sand area with 400 grit.
Spray on a catalyzed primer (any recommendations??) let dry for a week, sand with 400.
Put on a guide coat, sand with 400.
Put on a sealer. Then it would be ready for base coat/clear coat.
Anyone have any recomendations on what kind and where to get my primer and sealer at?
Does this sound like the right way to prep my truck for painting?
I want someone else to paint it, not sure what kind of paint to use yet, haven't gotten that far, but I figured I could do the prep work myself. Thanks for any insight guys!!

Go to a auto paint store. Ask for 2K primer. They are all pretty much the same. I use "Maximum 2K" by 5 Star. About the cheapest but might be hard to find. Everyone makes 2K. One product is named Slick Sand which my buddy swears by. No need to go for the expensive kinds. BTW, 2K's contain isocyanates. Not something you want to be breathing.
