What is the reason for changing engines? Friend had a 79 460, C-6 2wd. Didn't like the gas mileage. Went to a 351W about the same gas mileage. Now to a 302, still about the same gas mileage.

Yeah... I don't think you could do much in the way of engine swaps to change fuel economy if that is the reason. My uncle did the same exact thing. He went up in sizes instead of down. Changed carbs, Changed ignition...points, Pertronix, etc, exhaust setups, gearing. Everything he did had some net gain or loss but no matter what he did, it really just boiled down to a mile or two a gallon and cost way more to do all this than he could ever gain in fuel mileage benefits. If you need economy, buy something more economical. A diesel for instance. Or a Prius I ran into this with my 74. The 390 geared the way it is gets me 8.5mpg dropped out of an airplane or towing a house. Nothing I do is going to fix that for the long run. I just drive it while my wallet chews a hole in my ***. My econ driver is a Goldwing that gets 42 mpg. Is what it is.
