I have an 1989 ford f150. With what I think is a 4 inch sky jacker lift but my buddy made me second guess that today and said he thinks I may just have a leveling kit on it and the 35" tire just make it look high. Is there a way I can figure that out? Second, what do I need to buy to completely redo the front end? I want to do EVERYTHING important even if it's still good. I am working on referbishing the truck but I have to make it a 11 hour drive to my home state before I can do that.
I redid my F150 last year. New ball joints, tie rod ends, Poly axle pivot bushings, poly sway bar pivot bushings, poly SW link bushings, poly radius arm bushings, universal joints, wheel bearings, axle bearings and seals. I was also changing the gears to 4.10 and adding a TracLoc so it was all apart in the garage.
But does anybody know how to tell about the lift though becuase if I go and buy new shocks i would have to get ones for the lift/leveling kit.
And how many do I need to get for each part ( U-joints, ball joints) I bought 4 each but when I was buying them it kinda confused me with all the left inner and right outer parts. Thanks for your advice.
If you have a 4" lift you'll have drop brackets for the front , and probably over sized lift blocks in the back (or, :shudder:, stacked blocks) unfortunately proper replacement leaf springs for a lift are pretty rare since everyone wants cheap.
There will be drop brackets where the front ttb beams bolt to the front crossmember (for the pivot bolts), drop brackets for the radius arms to the frame, and a drop pitman arm at the steering box.
Should be pretty easy to tell, if you're not sure park next to another similar truck and take a look. You could probably even figure it out with pics from the Internet.
As for a rough list of replacement part:
3 front u joints, left outer, right inner, right outer
2 or 3 on front driveshaft, you'd have to look at it.
2 pivot bushings
2 radius arm bushings
2 outer tie rods
2 inner tie rods
2 sway bar bushings
2 sway bar end links
2 upper ball joints
2 lower ball joints

Thanks! That was very helpful.
Do you know what the pipe coming down off of the manifolds with the O2 sensor is called I've heard wide pipe, Y pipe, drop pipe and all kinds of stuff but I can't find it anywhere. I have a true dual with 2 in 2 out muffler. I would like to get a stock wide/Y/down pipe though
