Unhappy Code plug,where is it?

I have a 1992 F 250 7.3L diesel 4x4 with the speedometer not working and the Rear ABS light on. I figured it might be the Speed sensor but before replacing I took some advice I saw on the Forum about getting my codes read at the local parts store. The only connector we could find that was in any way similar to the code reader was located about were the heat vent is behind the shifter. The connector was different from what the code reader had and the guy said he couldn't read it. He said the computer didn't show an adapter for the situation. Does anybody know anything about this dilema? Are we not finding the right connector? The haynes manual I had showed the connector to be on the firewall area behing the fuse box next to the master cylinder. HELP! PLEASE.....

Wink Code plug,where is it?

Well (anybody who's interested, since I got no reply) I got the speedometer working by replacing the speed sensor. I found metal shavings on the pickup and after cleaning the rearend found that the differential had been worked on and had a new ring gear and other parts. The sensor ring had some damaged teeth ( I assume that they didn't replace the sensor ring) but all other gears looked good. It still hasn't taken care of the REAR ABS light staying on but I'm gettin there. I guess the damaged sensor ring is causing my speedometer to fluctuate at about 50-60 mph but it's better than none at all. I'm thinking about trying to dress the damaged teeth up with a file and see if that helps. I didn't find but just a few very small pieces of metal in the lower part of the differential, hopefully left from the past work since everything else looked good.

Till the next chapter!

Code plug,where is it?

My connector on my 3 Ford Van's are all between the main battery (passenger side) and the fender, in the engine compartment.

Mine is on the drivers side behind the windshield washer and coolant overflow tanks. Its encased in a large black plastic housing and should have EEC TEST stamped on it.

You will need to pull the differential case to replace the reluctor ring. If you have a limited slip check the tabs on the clutch plates. I've seen many times the tabs that keep the clutch plates from turning in the case will break off. When they are carried around by the ring gear rotation they get between the sensor and reluctor causing the damaged teeth.

Thanks so much guys for the replies. I'll check the 2 locations referenced when I get home on Thursday night. In the meantime I noticed yesterday that the Rear ABS light goes off now. All I did was unhook the ground battery cable when doing some welding on my home made bumper.

Thanks Again!
