Steering Wheel
I just got a 90 F150 XLT Lariat not too long ago, and I honestly don't like the steering wheel. It is the one with cruise and no airbag of course.
I like the 90-93 Taurus Steering wheel or similar (with the airbag)
So what I want to know is can I go to a junkyard and pull a wheel off a Taurus and will it bolt onto the truck column?
I know that the truck column is cylindrical and small, while the taurus one is kind of sqaured off a little bit, so it could potentially look a bit funny it you look at it from the front, but how often do you actually look at the front facing side of your wheel?
Will the airbag go off in the Taurus and snap my neck while I'm messing around with the wheel trying to get it off? I would like to just discard the bag and replace the centre section of the wheel.
Also will the cruise and horn switch connections be compatible? I could do some splicing if necessary.
Something tells me I have seen this wheel in 92-93 trucks w/airbag, but I would like to know if I can bolt it into my 90.
Thanks for any help!!!!

94+ 1/2tons have the airbags. I think you could possibly install the steering wheel, however, I'd just install the whole thing and not hook up the airbag.

All I want to do is replacxe my non-airbag wheel with a another one that has an airbag, but not use the airbag obviously. there's nothing wrong with that, is there?

Right! I was replying to the message above mine, I forgot to press the reply with quote so you'd know whom I was answering.
If a car or truck came with an air bag from the factory, you cannot change it at all.

Yes it is fine to do that, when you take the air bag out of the donor car, make sure that your grounded or it could go off in your face.
It will scare you half to death, and might give you a burse or two.
Does anybody know if it is safe to take an airbag wheel off of a junker as long as:
a) the ignition is off
b) the battery is probably out or dead
If anybody has any experience doing this some advice would be greatly appreciated.

>I've toured around junkyards, and most vehicles that are fairly new allready have the airbag's blown. The early airbag systems blew the airbag really really easy. If that's the case, then just rip the bag out and glue the cover back on.
