I'd think a person could add one easy enough.
My driveline guy has always put them on my shafts.
Guess I have never owned a non lifted vehicle long enough to realize they didn't come with zerks any longer. LoL
All of my Jeep's came with zerks stock, although I'm guessing that had a lot to do with the intended use and purpose. I don't think Ford anticipated the Excursion being used in a variety of terrain that strayed from asphalt and concrete
i am experiencing a vibration at 70+ MPH
the vibration is new, came out of no where!
the steering wheel does not vibrate
tracks straight
when i put it in neutral at 70+ MPH, i can still feel the vibration
the front and rear wheels are balanced
right now, the shop is balancing the drive shaft.
i wonder if the suggestion in this thread would have fixed the issue?

I guess you will find out. Please let us all know.

Probably not, but even over the road equipment needs lubrication.
WTH was ford thinking ? It's not like 1 more zerk to lube was going to make somebody decide the Ex was just more work then they could cope with.
What year ? Can you post a pic ?
I am just curious if they maybe they stopped using them and if they did maybe they started using a different spline coatings or what.

Oh well, sorry for the rant..... Carry on
Your point makes perfect sense though. My Chevelle had them stock, as did my F250's. I don't know what made the X so special to get neglected in the maintenance department. Only thing that makes sense is perhaps the figured the initial soccer mom customer base would just bring it in for routine maintenance when required and would have moved on to a different vehicle when the kids grew up and moved on.

Excellent point(s), the Excursion was de-contented over the Model years.

I guess they were just built back when consumer vehicles were still in transition from requiring lots of maintenance and headed in the direction of little to no maintenance.
Evidence on the ex, Unit bearings replacing serviceable bearings. auto lock hubs that are not made to be serviceable . Filter minder, then filter minder light in dash. Another curious item is the rear diff oil has a lifetime service rating unless it has been submerged. I guess somebody figured the boot on the driveline was the answer.
Basically the ex is a cross between a zippo and a bic.

I'm glad you asked because I just realized my boot is MIA
