VSS Issues
I'll try to keep this short,
So I'm on the way home tonight in the rain and my OD light starts to flash. So I pulled out my bluetooth obdII and forscan and found a code for VSS. So I went to look at the live data. When I look at the data from the PCM the VSS speed seems to be correct. When I look at the data from the IC (instrument cluster) the speed is slower shows slower then I'm going. The speedometer is also not showing correct, when I get to about 25 it starts to jump between 25 and 30, even if I go faster. And this is what forscan is showing too for IC.
So the question is, do the PCM and IC use the same sensor or are there 2 different ones? Does the PCM calculate the VSS off of the output shaft rpm? I seem to remember reading something along those lines on here a while back.
Can anyone help shed some light?

I didn't think of that. The rain could be messing with the sensors....We'll see tomorrow when it dries. Thing is, the code was under the IC module not the ABS module. That could just be the way it's designed to report it. Or maybe the IC is getting a bad reading from the ABS module?

Sounds exactly like my issue, I'll expect the ABS light soon then. I went through some deep water on the BQE this afternoon......you should've seen the spray.....

Yeah, I just found the thread you posted about it. I'm hoping mine isn't fried. I'll see if it's still acting weird in the morning, hopefully it'll dry out and I can clear the code, it was only wet for a few seconds from spray, not like your situation where it was submerged. I'll update tomorrow. Thanks Matt.

So the code is p0503 and it was reported from the PCM module not the IC as I previously stated. I've had VSS codes a few times before but they were always from the OTC (overhead trip computer) and I've never noticed anything not working or flashing until the issue yesterday.
On my commute this morning the speedo was still acting weird. I cleared the codes and nothing came back but it was still acting weird. Once I hit the highway and picked up to above 50 mph everything started acting normal and it's been totally fine since. The only thing I'm uncertain about is the abs seemed to be activating more frequently then usual. But that could be since the roads are still wet.
I checked the VSS from the IC, PCM, and ABS modules and everything was within 2 - 3 mph.
I'm hoping it was just the heavy rain causing problems, I might have it checked just to be safe. I had the transmission worked on in May and there's a 1 year warranty on it. So if he damaged the output shaft while working on it then I need to go back before this May.

There would have been issues immediately, not just after heavy water spray.
I'm leaning towards a plug not being fully sealed anymore (either around the socket, or the rear where the wires Coke out of a connector), or a nicked wire.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a loose/shorted wire/connection. I've had a lot of those already with this Ex. I already reran the VSM communication wire, the passenger side front speaker, and one spark plug/boot connector replaced. Plus light socket in the running board. Seems like the electrical system is very susceptible to corrosion.
