ranger bearing prob.
i have a 94 ford ranger, 4cyl, 5 speed. i bought this truck from a guy who had replaced the trans with a stock ranger trans, but he drove it and never checked the fluid. the tranny had a slow leak and when the fluid got low enough it sounds like to me that a bearing in the front half of the tranny started whining. he parked it as soon as he heard the noise, i bought it, found that it had less than a 1/4 of a quart of fluid in it. i drained the little bit of fluid out and there were no metal shavings of any kind. i filled it with fluid and check it once a week and refil it as needed, prob less than a 1/4 of a quart every month and a half. ive put 60,000 miles on it and nothing major has happened. im now needing to sell the truck and am needing to fix this anoying noise, does anyone have any idea where i can get a good price on a bearing kit, or have any knowledge of anything like this happening before?
