i am hoping i can find a 8 foot bed in good shape that had the tool box on the lower passenger side. i am afraid of the rust on the one posted above. i am just going to be patient and hopefully some one on here will find one or i will come across one

This is what's left of my 8' bed, two complete bed sides, and the wheel tubs. If anybody can come and get them, you can have them. Other than that, they might become "wall art" for my garage.

1967-72s aren't as terrible of rusters as 1973-79s. Know someone who can't hold onto a 73-79 but the earlier ones aren't in as much demand.

I've seen where some guys on here buy just the side box like off C/L or ebay and add it to their bed.

My bed was rusted badly as it had 1/4" steel diamond plate put in the bed water & dirt got under it and rusted it badly.

So, I called every junk yard around and they put out a state wide notice on a wanted parts list. About 6 weeks later it was within 50 miles of me..
I think, I paid $250 for it in 1978. I put this onto a 4wd f250 frame and the spring eye bracket rubbed the box a little.

I fixed that area with a BF Hammer. Later I had to cut this area out to remove the spring eye bolt. Then make a sheet metal cover door held in the screws and some sealer to keep rain road water out..

This looks like a good clean bed. Not sure what your price range is though.

i Have 4 of the 8 ft boxes and 2 with the tool box in the side, and several tailgates, all rust free but off the top of my head cant remember which ones are 67-69 or 70-72, i think i have 2 of each.

Hey Murc, You know how some places make booths out of car front ends? Well if I say 8 foot BED does that pop an idea in your head?

X2 with Jeff those outer bed skins are destined for better things then scrap. Since a decent short bed is so hard to find in decent shape and at a decent price I was thinking of just using the outer skins on my crew build and use some tubing that ties into the roll cage to hang the skins off of sort of like you see on the trophy trucks and trail rigs.

i have been thinking about taking a 67-72 left & right taillight end cap and mounting them to the garage wall with a tailgate to make a drop down seat, it would look cool when not in use and handy when you want to sit down. maybe make the tail lights work off of solar some how ??

Oh yes, I've had ideas like that! I'm pretty sure my "better half" would not be as enthusiastic about it as I would be. She likes to ride in the Merc, but she don't want pieces of it in the house!
