6th gen compared to modern trucks

1979 Ford F-250 - User Reviews - CarGurus

Man there are some extreme statements made in terms page above. A couple said the 6th gen were the best trucks Ford made and I was going to ask here in what way and how that could be , but then one reviewer said it had more pulling power.

I assumed any or most other ways the 6th gen would be better due to government restrictions that cause lower power or torque. Is it true the sixth gets can make comparable torque to a newer f series

And also are there others ways our trucks excel in comparison to newer trucks

Show me a today's modern truck in 40 years. If I'm still around I'd bet mine is still on the road.

They don't get totaled in a little hail.

New trucks even think about hail and the turn into a golf ball.

Good points. I didn't realize the sheet metal on the older trucks was stronger.

Is it true the 70s ford trucks are the most sought after by enthusiasts?

Ask any seller and the answer is "yes, it's the rarest, please give me all your money" lol

To answer your question, yes, the 390s and 460s did make similar toque to an EcoBoost (just for reference). BUT here's the difference: you get double the fuel mileage and your pushing it through 6 gears vs 3. Not to mention 1st gear in those 6 speeds is WAY lower than 1st in a C6. Thus, the GVWR in a 2015 F-150 is 3000 lbs more than the GVWR of a 70s F-350 Super Camper Special.

the 6.2 gas engine in the late model super dutys will smoke a 460. but the interior of the new trucks is flimsy and so is the sheet metal. but towing ,torque and the frame of a new truck is no match for the old ones.

with that said i bought a 2014 f250 with a 6.2 and i traded it for a tranit connect . when i need a truck i drive my 79 !

I became a father 6 years ago and have had 2 since with one due i13 March. At oneach time I was looking at transits to fit my family in but have since resigned myself to an excursion.
I saw some cool modification s to transits into campers etc using carpentry skills etc but never found one that looked like a family van. My brother buy Japanese vans and I didn't want to do that

Maybe a stock 460. Throw a good cam, heads, carb, headers and ignition, youll be dragging diesels around backwards. Hell you can build a stockish 460 to do that using old cobra jet parts.

Apples vs Oranges = no defensible conclusions. I like my 2018 F-150 and I like my 1976 F-150 but for different reasons. They each serve entirely different needs that I have. Some have tried to merge old and new in the street rod / resto-mod tradition. That's cool too but also serves a different need.

so? That's what forums are for. You search your topic then read and post. It's not intended to post the same question 1,000 times because your to lazy to use the search function. Go drive your Chevy dude.

To buy or not to buy ?

My silent helper

Dressing for the occasion

1990 just fabed a HD replacement bed.
My answer to ? was to not to buy, but to sell my tired 03' and use the $$ to restore my 78' cab and chassis dually i purchased in 1984 not to mention the optics and being able to find it in a crowd plus the feeling i get when asked what year... "nice truck". Not the typical daily driver but i had it so why not. I figured i could never use the $ difference in less mpg and restoration as to what it'd be as to buying newer and less painful than high dollar monthly payments vs lower mpg on the 78'. Here are a couple pics of my completely sound deadened and nearly completed resto.
As you can see I'm Ford all the way.
