1997 E-150 Stereo

I just bought a 97 E-150 with only 27k on it at the beginning of the summer and after about a week or so I realized that whenever I drove or mostly accelerated there was a whining noise in only my right front speaker, but it goes away whenever I turn up the radio real loud but when I turn it back down and turn or stop the speaker goes back out. Then last week I got an Alpine 9803 installed hoping that would fix my speaker but it didn't. I spoke to the guy who installed it and he said it could be my amplifier or a blown out speaker and we are pretty sure its the amp. But we can't find the amplifier does anyone know where it is?

Most of the external amps that come from the factory are located up under the dash. I am not sure if it will be the same in a van, but worth a look. I had a similar problem with my truck and it turned out to be a speaker wire to close to a power wire coming from the fuse box. The hum was coming from the alternator. You can either try to locate that wire, or use RCA filters from your head unit out. Hope it helps....good luck.

Well, The one I saw was in a 1997 Expedition and it was up toward the steering colomn. I know if you are thinking about pulling it out it is real hard to do. They make a wiring harness that you can use to bypass the amp if you have an aftermarket amp or your just going to run it off your head unit.
