'lectrical problem

OK,
Long story short the EX has developed a substantial parasitic drain.
I have traced it to fuses:
1: Which is listed as Radio and secondary fusing for audio options.
And to make matters even more fun:
15: Listed as Stop lamp switch (logic), PATS, GEM

I rigged a diagnostic light, when both fuses are plugged in, it glows brightly and pulses in time with the battery saver relay. when I pull fuse 1 the batttery saver relay stops clicking, the light continues to pulse, when I pull 15, the light goes out. If I put fuse 1 back in, the light comes back on, and the relay starts clicking again.

WTH.
Anyone with any relevant experience or situation?
One of the previous owners, I suspect the original owner had additional entertainment stuff installed, the Ex has a back seat LCD, DVD player and IR broadcast headphones.
I fear I have my work cut out for me.
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
MDH

Provided your brake lights are working as they should, I would definitely shake down the audio system before poking at your GEM or PATS for issues. Any one of your aftermarket components could be on the fritz. You are on the right path using a load light, just have to keep going down the circuit unplugging components that it powers and looking for the light to go out.

Seems like the next step would be find the power wires to the aftermarket entertainment devices and disconnect them. Head units and some other accessories have 2 power wires. The main feed which is key off power and then a secondary signal wire for key on power.

They are likely affecting the GEM by pulling key on power from a spliced wire under the dash that runs up to your steering wheel but may also be tied into the headlight switch for dimming purposes. ( the dash pops off easily if you need to trace wires)

How long are you waiting during each test? I recall someone mentioning on this site that there is a delay after shutting down before the electrical system switches to the actual low draw standby mode. I don't remember the time. A minute or two? I've also seen a radio/CD player that will power up momentarily and cycle the CD ejection mechanism when disconnecting then reconnecting power. So if you haven't done this already you might want to repeat the tests and let it sit for a few minutes before checking for a drain.

You have to wait about 30 min before the GEM goes to sleep, otherwise your going to get false readings.
