1981 Bronco XLT electrical problem,my Bronco starts right up however the tach needle bounces at idle even though the engine is idling smooth, also whenever I turn on anything electrical like interior lights, headlights, ect.the engines slows down, turn them off engine speeds up ??
My digital volt meter shows a normal charge between 13.5 and 14 when running and 12 when not.Thought the problem was the external voltage regulator so i replaced it...still has the same problem, any idea what it could be.The sears diehard battery and motorcraft alternator are about 6 years old,and the ignition coil is about 2 years old.
Sounds like a bad ground. If you have a chilton or haynes a good first check would be the ground wire coming off of the Duraspark boxwith an ohmeter. That's the one that will cause jumpy tach. (jiggling the wires during the check will help with intermittent connections)
