I bought this van a couple of months ago and everything works well. While trying to make up a list of needed maintenance parts I ran across the hard & soft hose in the picture. Shop manual doesn't show them in coolant, emissions or climate control. What are they and what does this vacuum gate control? TIA, Jeff
The metal tube is part of the smog control system. It is called a Secondary Air Injection Pipe. Part# E7TZ-9B449-A
The second part with the vacuum line is called Secondary Air Injection By-pass Valve. Part# E3SE-9F491-AA
The other two parts that look almost alike are called Air Check Valves. The one that screws onto the tube is part# E9VZ-9A487-A. The one that has the pipe going down to the cat should be part# EZ-9A487-A

What year is your van?
It's a 1994 (like in the signature) Thanks for your help.
You can probably find it cheaper but I am not sure about the quality of the different brands
Such as the site link) Ford Air Tube - Crossover With Threaded Stub Replaces OE E7TZ-9B449-A and F6TZ-9B449-F
$64.40 OR, Ford Converter EGR Air Tube 85-96 Truck Bronco Van (O.E. #E7TZ-9B449-A) #109
besides the pump going bad, the air tube is most often what burns or rusts out.
I don't have allot of experience or knowledge about this system but here is a great 2 part video explaining how it works. If is not a system like we have on out vans but helped me allot to understand how the basic system works and what it does..

Keep in mind not everyone on any forum has their thread display preferences set the same. In my case and more than few others too signature display is disabled---needed info like year, make and model are best posted inside the opening post to get quick and helpful answers.
Anna is the queen of finding useful info here---she's kinda amazing at that in fact!
