Im not sure if this should be here but the ford vs. compation forum got shut down. I have heard that fords will always be able to make more power than chevy engines due to the head design. Is there any truth to this. Anything else that would prove fords make more power would be cool to.
Actually in stock form ford heads are usually more restrictive than chevy heads. Especially on the exhaust side. My guess is that ford wanted smaller ports so there would be increased air velocity for better fuel atomization. Most stock ford heads can be easily modified to flow every bit as good as a highly modified chevy head though. Chevy uses the canted valve design like the 351C heads. This is one of the best designs out there for performance with the exception of hemispherical combustion chanbers.
Well, it all depends. Are you talking stock vs. stock? Are you comparing SB to SB, BB to BB? Even among small blocks, Ford had several different heads. Some were completely different than others, i.e. Windsor vs. Cleveland. As far as stock comparisons go, if you are talking small block, not much compares to 4 barrel Cleveland heads. There is a reason they were quickly outlawed in Nascar. If you are talking big block then Fords win on the intake side and Chevy on the exhaust. Actually Boss 429 or the 427 SOHC win on both intake and exhaust. If you are talking aftermarket, it's out the gate, cause anything goes.
