Cruise control issue

My cruise control will engage but not maintain set speed. It slowly loses KPH, 10 KPH every 30 seconds. Anybody have suggestions on what to look for?

Leaky vacuum line? Bad vehicle speed sensor?

mine had a loose vacuum line.

I am checking the lines but haven't found anything amiss yet. I will keep looking.

I am in MX and parts are not easy to find. How would I check the speed sensor?

When my 87 Ranger cruise control quit i pulled the codes & got a 27 "vehicle speed sensor signal voltage is too low." If you Aero is like my Ranger it does'nt have a check engine light so you need to pull the codes.

I have the Factory vacuum manual purchased in 1987, an electrical map, and a Haynes manual. The speed sensor might be mounted on top of the rear axle. Loosen the bolt, remove wire connector, pull sensor. There is a thread here showing how to test it with ohmeter.

The vehicle speed sensor was mounted on the transmission tail housing up to 1991, after which it was eliminated and combined with the ABS speed sensor in the rear axle.
